LD PISTAL
“If one tells you that he has seen a
horse fly in the air, ask what color
he was; if he replies Chestnut, believe him.”
– The Horse
of the Desert, W.R. Brown
The chestnut horse was among the most
prized by the desert Bedouins. These are
thought to be the most fleet and also the
most spirited of Arabian horses. No doubt
it was the same noble spirit that captured
the hearts, minds and imaginations of Jeff
and Rich Sloan when they saw the brilliant
chestnut stallion LD Pistal. With his imposing
stature, Pistol’s presence inspires admiration
and his eyes - the mirror of his soul -
reflect kindness and intelligence. LD Pistal
possesses everything desirable about the
Arabian breed and brings it all to life
in the form of a creature that is balanced
and harmonious, elegant and handsome, athletic
and powerful.
“For us, Pistal is a treasure that was
just waiting to be discovered. He is a great
horse with so much heart and spirit.” state
the Sloans.
Inspiration lead to action and shortly
after seeing LD Pistal, the Sloans purchased
him. Their decision to acquire Pistal was
based on several criteria. First were his
physical characteristics which represent
classic Arabian type. His movement is proud
and lofty and his conformation is nearly
flawless. Judges agree with the Sloan’s
high opinion of Pistal. Time and time again
they have selected LD Pistal as their ideal
of what an Arabian stallion should be. At
the age of six, Pistal already has earned
five National titles including 2003 Canadian
National Reserve Champion Futurity Colt,
2004 Canadian National Champion Junior Stallion
and three U.S. National Top Ten Awards.
The Sloans comment on the stallion’s
show career, “Pistal is such a great show
horse. He certainly has the attitude and
confidence to be successful and his conformation
is extremely correct. He’s been very close
to winning a U.S. National Championship.
We feel that he is only going to get better
which makes the possibility of him winning
that championship all the more promising.”
If you spend any amount of time with
the Sloans, you will quickly find that family
is one of their highest priorities. So it
comes as no surprise that the family of
LD Pistal is of the utmost importance to
them and was the third and perhaps the most
challenging criteria in their decision to
purchase Pistal.
Although LD Pistal is in the early prime
of his life, he’s just a six-year-old, he
has the persona of an old soul. His noble
bearing is the inheritance he received from
his ancestors. LD Pistal descends from the
royalty of the Arabian breed and he wears
his heritage like a robe of shining, amber-colored
satin. How many of us can trace our family
back three, four or even five generations?
Yet because of the consistently superior
individuals produced by his family, LD Pistal’s
pedigree can be traced back at least 15
generations – back to the desert and the
origins of his own greatness.
If you trace as far into LD Pistal’s
pedigree as you can, you will find that
each line begins with a desert bred horse.
Over the years those Bedouin horses made
their way to breeders in Egypt, England,
Poland, Hungary, Spain and eventually to
America. Each of those breeders had a dream
– to breed the very best Arabian horse possible
and, to make a contribution of lasting value.
And so they did. Through their efforts,
some more than a hundred years ago, we are
able to have know such magnificent creatures
as *Ansata Ibn Halima, *Ansata Bint Mabrouka,
Ansata Shah Zaman, *Morafic, *Sakr, *Magidaa,
Nabiel, Hal Gazal, Hal Gibby and Halana,
Kilimandscharo, Patron, *Padron, Padrons
Psyche and Magnum Psyche. All of these historically
influential individuals come together in
LD Pistal.
Breeders are the backbone of the Arabian
horse community - Marion and Al Corrow of
Lawndale Arabians are proof of that fact.
For over 25 years their philosophy has been,
“… quality, not quantity.” The wisdom of
that belief is proven by the fact that the
Corrows bred not only National Champion
Junior Stallion, LD Pistal, but they also
bred his dam, 1990 Canadian National Champion
Mare, Halana (Hal Gibby x Hickorys Natasha,
by Tah Zaman).
After the challenge of competition and
the thrill of winning a national championship,
the Corrows were faced with the daunting
task of deciding to which stallion they
would breed their superstar mare. As longtime
devotees of the *Padron bloodlines, they
bred Halana to Padron’s Psyche with outstanding
success. In 1999 they decided to take Halana
to Psyche’s multi-national champion son,
Magnum Psyche.
The new millennium started off with great
promise when Halana foaled a bright chestnut
colt on May 20 th of 2000. The colt, LD
Pistal, would proudly continue the family
tradition of national championships and
follow in the footsteps of some of the legends
of the Arabian horse breed…
*PADRON - LD Pistal’s
paternal great grandsire - 1981 Canadian
National Champion Stallion and 1982
U. S. National Champion Stallion
PADRONS PSYCHE –
LD Pistal’s paternal grandsire – 1991
U.S. National Reserve Champion Stallion
MAGNUM PSYCHE –
LD Pistal’s sire – 1996 U.S. National
Champion Yearling colt, 1998 U. S. and
Canadian National Champion Stallion,
2000 Argentine National Champion Stallion,
2004 U. S. National Senior Champion
Stallion
Not only have the stallions of the *Padron
line made show ring history, they went on
to even greater glory and established what
can only be called a modern day dynasty
within the Arabian horse breed. Year after
year these stallions have earned the honor
of being the breed’s leading sires of champions.
LD Pistal is on his way to continuing this
tradition.
The Sloans offer their thoughts, “We
think Pistal will make an amazing breeding
stallion. He’s by a National Champion Stallion,
Magnum Psyche, out of a National Champion
Mare, Halana. For us the dam of any sire
is extremely important, and Halana is truly
a beautiful mare.
Pistal already has so many fans. We get
emails everyday congratulating us and expressing
their love of Pistal. We’re going to support
him in every way possible. We’re going to
be breeding our best mares to him. And,
we believe that Pistal will make an enduring
and positive impact on the breed for years
to come. We want to share that with others.”
